A BEST-selling author has written a dark and twisted psychological thriller set in Worcester, inspired by her own experience.

Sue Watson's latest book The Empty Nest,’ tells the story of a Worcester woman whose daughter is away at university, and mysteriously disappears in the first term.

This is the former BBC producer's third thriller.

Her two previous novels hit the top of the bestsellers lists in both the UK and the US and she’s hoping this one will be even more successful.

"The idea came to me recently when my daughter, Eve left home to go to university," said Sue, who lives on Bromsgrove’s Oakalls Estate.

"I thought, how crazy is this?"

" We’ve nurtured and protected her all her life, and at the tender age of eighteen we drive her to another city, move her into a house full of strangers, and leave her there.

"I remember driving home after moving her in and felt like I’d left one of my limbs behind.’

"Thankfully, my daughter loves university life,"

Sue added: "But the whole experience made me think about the empty nest our children leave behind – how is it filled?

"And what if there is potential for real danger, both inside and outside that nest?"

Sue, a former Barbourne resident chose to set the novel in Worcester because she says she loves the city.

"I’ve set previous novels here, it has so much for the writer, along with the history, there’s the river, the Cathedral, the university and the wonderful mix of people,’ she said.

"I wanted this story to start here - and end here - but I won’t say any more - no spoilers."

The Empty Nest,  described as "A gripping and suspenseful psychological thriller with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster and an ending that will blow readers’ minds,’ is available to buy as a paperback or ebook on Amazon, Kobo and iTunes.
