A POPULAR bonfire and fireworks display has been cancelled due to severe flooding.

The annual Round Table bonfire, fairground and fireworks at Pitchcroft racecourse was due to take place on Saturday but has been called off after the racecourse was submerged in water.

But there are alternatives still taking place in and near Worcester.

Fireworks Spooktacular will take place at Sixways Stadium.

Children can meet their favourite children’s characters around the stadium on the night.

As well as fireworks, other activities will include fairground rides and facepainting and there will be drinks and snacks available to buy.

Tickets are £4 for juniors (ages 3 – 16) and £7 for adults, available from the ticket office on 01905 459349.

It will take place on Friday November 1, gates open at 5:30pm.

Redhill C of E Primary School will hold their Fireworks Extravaganza and toffee apples, bar and BBQ.

Tickets are available from the office and are cheaper in advance.

On the night, prices are £6 for adults, £4 for children and under under 4s get in for free.

It will take place on Friday November 8, starting at 6pm.

Bonfire Night’s history began with events on November 5 1605, when Guy Fawkes was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Bonfires were lit in celebration of the fact that King James I had not been killed in this assassination attempt.
