TWO brothers have raised more than £7,000 after walking the length of the Malvern Hills in memory of their late father.

Dan and Simon Batty, from Colwall, took on the walk on October 20 to raise money for Herefordshire MIND after their dad, Steve, died earlier this year having suffered anxiety, depression and tinnitus.

The pair set off from Chase End at 9.15am, before stopping at Sally’s Place Kiosk at British Camp at around midday, being joined by more than 100 friends and family.

The current total raised via their fund raising page is more than £5,000 in addition to £2,500 raised by Steve's former colleagues from SPX Flow.

Liz Batty, Dan and Simon's mother, said: "We were astounded at the support and the donations are still flooding in. It is absolutely amazing.

"Others who could not walk set cycling challenges up the hills to raise funds - Steve's brother in law climbed 4,000 metres on his bike which is a third of the height of Everest.

"We would like to thank Sarah and all the staff at Sally's Place, British Camp, for the best bacon butties in the world and to Alex at The Nags Head for the welcome beer at the end."

David Harding from Herefordshire MIND said: "It had a fantastic feel and I am pretty much speechless regarding the monies that have been raised.

"We have never had such a successful event raising funds for us and I am humbled by what you have achieved.

"I now know that we will be able to continue our Community Hub provision, including our new Safe Haven Crisis Service."

Mr Batty, aged 52, was last seen leaving his home on Friday, March 1, His body was discovered the following day after a police search. Malvern Rugby Football Club cancelled its game against Hereford that day, as Dan plays for the team.
