SPOOKY Steven Collins, a reporter known for haunting many a place and person in the pursuit of a story, turned his focus to Halloween to preview the best of the local frighteningly good events.

HALLOWEEN is nearly here and I’m so excited to be able to raid my wardrobe and dress up. Each day I arrive at my desk in sombre clothing, including a plain shirt, so it’s nice to be more flamboyant for a change.

Berrows House, the home of the Worcester News, has its fair share of ghostly activity, I'm told. Prowling the corridors in the depths of the building, I often hear strange noises – but it could just be the old heating system, or the hot air emitted by my colleagues. While lurking in the shadows, I donned my witch’s thinking cap to trick or treat you with ideas for Halloween fun...

  • Hartlebury Castle is hosting what should be a frightfully good family time, where visitors can have a go at making spooky clay creatures, carving a pumpkin and watching a firework display. Cost is £2 per child for craft activities on top of the standard admission charge and pumpkins carving is another £2.50. Doors creak open from Tuesday October 29, slamming shut on Friday, November 1, from between 11am to 4pm each day.
  • Sixways Stadium in Worcester will be holding a joint Halloween and Fireworks Night event, billed as a ‘spooktacular’ fireworks display. Tickets are £4 for children aged between three and 16 and £7 for adults. To book, call the ticket office on 01905 459349.
  • St Peters Garden Centre at Peartree Farm in Norton will have a free scary walk on Saturday, October 26 from 10am until 5pm, with no booking needed.
  • Fans of the Rocky Horror Picture Show can attend a ‘relaxed’ screening of the 15-rated film at Worcester Arts Workshop, with a bottle of Prosecco on offer for the best spooky costume. Tickets are £7.50 and doors open at 7pm on Friday, November 1.
  • St Richard’s Hospice will receive at least £2 from each adult entry in a fun run taking place at Cob House Country Park in Worcester. There will be various routes, taking runners through the spooky woods. Participants will need to register and download a sponsorship form before hand.
