CONCERNS have been raised about car parking outside a primary school.

Jennifer Kenny, 42, believes someone will be hurt because inconsiderate parents are parking badly on the school run.

She takes her son to St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Droitwich every day.

Mrs Kenny said: “It’s just a matter of time until a child gets hurt. Lots of parents park around here when they drop the kids off, leaving no room to use the footpaths so we are forced to walk on the road. They park half on the curb - it’s not good.

“I park away from the school and walk so I don’t add to the issue. The council said they’d look at bringing in traffic wardens but I’ve not seen any. I feel sorry for the residents as some of the cars block their drive ways."

Catherine Bryan, head teacher at the school, said: “We work regularly with the local police on this issue and we urge parents to park responsibly when they pick up and drop their children off.

“We’ve sent this information out in the past in news letters and we’ve had various campaigns highlighting the issue. I would welcome parking wardens to patrol the area.

George Duffy who represents Droitwich west on the town council, said: “This is an issue with all schools in my area - not just St Joseph’s - children’s safety is a top priority. It’s a problem Wychavon District Council are looking for a solution to.

“I’ve talked to residents before and they’ve told me of their cars being damaged by cars parking up.

“Parking wardens do a great job but they can’t be everywhere all the time.”

A spokeswoman from Wychavon District Council said: “We do patrol near schools and will continue to do so as often as resources allow

“Our civil enforcement officers will issue a Penalty Charge Notice to those vehicles that are parked in contravention of the parking regulations. Vehicles causing a safety hazard should be reported to the police on 101.”
