AN up-and-coming Redditch musician has made it to the regional finals of a prestigious music competition.

Meg Scane, a regular at Morton Stanley Festival, has got through to the regional finals of Open Mic UK, having performed in front of Atlantic Records and Polydor Records and some of the UK's top vocal coaches.

The 20-year-old, currently working as a shop assistant at The Cornstores on Evesham Road, said she entered after finally thinking she was good enough.

"I took the chance because it seems like a fantastic opportunity to get noticed the music industry," she said.

"Every year I see the advertisement for the competition and never really thought I was good enough but with all the opportunities and experiences I've had this year I took a chance."

She said she would love to get noticed by people in the industry and from there get signed/get a record deal.

The regional finals are being held at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall, in Birmingham, on October 13.

If Meg wins she will get the chance to play at the O2 in London.

Open Mic UK is the biggest search for unsigned talent in the UK, open to anyone to enter from singers and singer/songwriters to rappers and vocal groups.

All genres are welcome and acts can perform covers or original songs.
