A LICKEY End shop is among the cream of the country after being named as one of the UK's top independent stores.

Vicky's Convenience Store & Post Office in Alcester Road has been included on the Independent Achievers Academy (IAA) Top 100 list.

The list is compiled through in-store assessments and celebrates the continuing success of independent shops across the UK.

The assessment is based on shops achieving excellence in serving their local shoppers across 12 core principles of retailing.

Vicky Onions, who runs the store, said: “I’m thrilled to have made the IAA Top 100, it’s fantastic to be recognised for providing a service to our community.

"My team and I have worked hard to ensure we’re doing all we can for our customers. I can’t wait to share the news with them!”

Samantha Gunston, head of events at Newtrade Media, who run the IAA, said: “The Top 100 list recognises the hard work of independent local shop owners and their staff to deliver brilliant standards, service and experiences for their customers.

"With our partners, the IAA helps retailers to assess, compare and improve their stores so they can compete with multiples and online stores.”

From the top 100, a shortlist of shops will be announced next week, which will be narrowed down to four finalists per category on October 9.

Finalists will then be judged by a panel comprising top retailers and leading industry experts and, finally, 12 category stars and an overall best shop will be revealed at the IAA Gala Dinner, on Wednesday, November 27 in London.
