A 42-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attacking another woman and assaulting a police officer following an alleged violent incident in Worcester.

We have previously reported how police arrived in large numbers at Lowesmoor shortly before 4pm on Monday after reports of a disturbance.

The alleged victim in the assault was said by police to have suffered ‘minor injuries’.

Witnesses described a woman allegedly shouting and struggling with a number of male and female police officers near the entrance to the city’s Asda supermarket.

Several police cars with blue lights attended, parking nearby on the road as officers attempted to calm the woman down.

A child in a pushchair could be seen just yards away from the disturbance as crowds began to gather.

The suspect was eventually taken away in a police van as people gathered near the entrance to Asda.

Some, upon hearing the commotion, spilled out of the pubs to see what was happening.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “Police were called at around 3.45pm yesterday afternoon (Monday, 26 August) to reports of a woman assaulting another woman outside Asda on Silver Street, Worcester.

“The victim, a woman in her 30s, suffered minor injuries.

“A 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault, assaulting an emergency worker, a public order offence and breach of a criminal behaviour order.”

Assault against an emergency worker applies to an offence of common assault, or battery, that is committed against an emergency worker while doing their job.

The Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018 was introduced in September last year.

Those with further information about the incident itself can contact West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident reference 515s of August 26.
