A GROUP of retired teachers form the county will be walking the length of Worcestershire to help raise money for charity.

The group, who set out on their trek next week, aim to complete 45 miles in three days.

The walk was the brainchild of Peter Lee-Smith who will be walking with two of his friends, Tony Monks and Richard Stenton, and will be walking from Tenbury Wells to Ledbury crossing the Malvern Ridge twice.

The 70 year-olds are walking to raise money for the Citizens Advice South Worcestershire, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

On the way, the team will call in at the Citizens Advice South Worcestershire office in Prospect Close, Malvern.

They will be welcomed by the Richard West, advice services manager of Citizens Advice and Caroline Bovey of Malvern Hills District Council, a strong supporter of the charity.

Mr Lee-Smith said “I have set myself a target of £1,000 in sponsorship.

“With a fortnight still to go before we pull on our rucksacks the total already stands at £800 thanks to the generosity of my marvellous friends and relatives.

“I’m hoping we can smash this total because 2019 is a special year for Citizens Advice; it’s 80 years old.

“We want to make sure that Citizens Advice can go on offering free information, advice and advocacy to local people for years to come.”

Citizens Advice South Worcestershire is an independent charity working as part of the Citizens Advice Network.

As well as offering an information and advice service, the bureau also runs Malvern Hills Volunteering.

The walk finises in Ledbury, because in 2016, Herefordshire Citizens Advice had to close its doors when funds ran out and since then, Citizens Advice South Worcestershire has helped fill the void.
