A 95 year old Second World War veteran has returned to Worcester this week to visit the pub where he was born.
Tony Bateman was born at the The Globe Hotel, which is now the Cardinal's Hat, in 1924.
Mr Bateman came back to visit the pub, sharing stories with current landlord Nigel Smith, such as how his father Albert, who was the licensee of The Globe.
He said: "It was very special for me: it meant a lot to visit the now Cardinal’s Hat and we were made so very welcome.
"It brought back such happy memories of a wonderful childhood spent in Worcester."
Mr Smith said: "It was an honour to welcome back someone who was born here so long ago.
"Tony had so many stories to tell about his youth and his father Albert Edward Bateman and his own time in the Suffolk Regiment as a gunner."
