SCOUTS from across Worcestershire were among 4,000 young people who attended the very first Shirejam.

The event, which was held at the Three Counties Showgroung in Malvern, has been hailed a success.

From Redditch to Ross, Hereford to Worcester and Kidderminster to Evesham, young people aged six to 18 and more than 1,000 adult volunteers attended the event celebrating the #SkillsForLife vision of Scouting.

The event featured Six zones; Adventure, Splash, Learn, Bounce, Create and Survive.

In addition our Shirejam main stage feature live acts, a disco and a talent competition.

During the weekend young people undertook activities ranging from scuba diving, animals, zorbing and creative craft to climbing, aeroplanes, radio broadcasting and Archery.

Assistant District Commissioner Peter Dodman said: "As Scouts, we believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance.

"The weekend delivered an amazing event with a diverse representation of our two counties, many new friendships were formed between young people and also between adult volunteers too.

"We had many dignitaries visit during Shirejam including the Lord Lieutenants of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, we thank you for your support of Scouting."

Mr Dodman said as Scouting in Herefordshire and Worcestershire continues to grow, more volunteers are needed.
