A BROMSGROVE man has admitted stealing Jaguar Land Rover car parts but the value of the stolen items is in dispute.

Sheldon Heppel, 23, of School Drive, Bromsgrove, admitted stealing parts from JLR Parts UK Ltd in Stoke Prior when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court this week.

The theft took place between February 1, 2019 and May 28, 2019.

The firm's website describes the company as 'the largest independent supplier of Land Rover Surplus Stock in the UK', selling 'genuine Land Rover parts at the lowest prices available'.

Lee Egan, for Heppel, said the guilty plea would be on a basis yet to be established.

He said there had been a suggestion that the stolen parts were worth £40,000 and £120,000 in sale value but that this was disputed by the defendant.

Judge Robert Juckes QC said: “He admits the offence and denies the value.”

Mr Egan also asked that a pre-sentence report be prepared by the probation service and argued that more time was required to establish the value of the stolen parts and agree that with the Crown Prosecution Service, represented at the hearing by Paul Whitfield.

The case was adjourned until Thursday, August 1. Again the hearing will take place at Worcester Crown Court.

In the meantime Heppel was granted unconditional bail.

Judge Juckes told Heppel to co-operate with the probation service in the preparation of the report.

He also warned him that if he did not appear on August 1 he would be committing an offence which is in itself punishable with imprisonment and further warned him: "The fact I'm adjourning the case for a report does not indicate the type of sentence that will follow."
