The Chapel Gallery in Bromyard is asking artists to think small this June.

We’ve all heard of carbon footprints, but what about art works no bigger than a footprint?

That, in fact, in the subject of a new exhibition.

A spokesman said: “This exhibition of small works includes paintings, drawings, original prints, ceramics and stone sculptures and in keeping with the nature of this exhibition.

“No piece is larger than 30cm in any dimension. There is an intensity to working in this way which heightens the use of the materials, whether paint or clay or stone or ink, and which works to focus our attention on the artist’s subject matter.”

The spokesman added:” You can engage with the artworks through conversation with one of the artists – there will be a different artist each day in the gallery available to talk in more detail about their own work and the exhibition as a whole.”

Another attraction will be a “friendly pop-up café, where you can buy light refreshments”.

The exhibition entitled, suitably enough, Small Works - artworks no bigger than a footprint, opens at the Chapel Gallery in Sherford Street, Bromyard, this Saturday, June 22, and runs until Sunday, June 30.

The Chapel Gallery is housed in the Congregational Chapel in Bromyard, which dates back to 1701 and is Grade II listed..

It hosts several exhibitions a year "with an emphasis on showing the work of artists with connections to Herefordshire and the surrounding region".

A spokesman said: "The Chapel is no 'white cube' with each exhibition space having its own character and relationship with the building's past as a chapel and its present as a domestic home."
