A MEMBER of Worcester’s popular Ukulele Band has said that they want to get people to attend the Band in the Park events at Cripplegate Park, after recent confusion and cancellations.

Pat Richardson said the Ukulele Band’s events are still not listed on the city council’s website, and is encouraging people to attend them.

Last week the Worcester News reported on the problems after the late cancellation of some of the music events in the city’s parks.

Worcester City Council has blamed the cancellations on a third party agent and said they have been forced due to clashes with other events.

Ms Richardson said she had now spoken with council officers and the definite list of dates had been confirmed for Cripplegate Park.

They are:

June 16 - Malvern Hills Brass Band

July 7 - Ukulele Band

July 21 - West Midlands Police Brass Band

September 15 - Malvern Chase Brass Band.

Ms Richardson said: “On a sunny day we can get up to 200 people attending the Cripplegate Park events, and we don’t want people to miss out this time.

“Malvern Chase Brass Band have had funded by Fortis Housing through its helping hands fund.

“Each band costs about £250 and have in the past been funded by the city council.

“I have for the last few years added three bands to extend the season - the two Ukulele bands are self funded by the sale of cakes.

This year we are only having two bands funded by the city so my three extra bands are more important than ever.”

She added that she was also looking to get another band for August.

The list of bands playing, including at Gheluvelt Park, can be found at bandsinthepark.org.uk.
