FOLLOWING a debate in the House of Commons on the Alexandra Hospital, Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch County, has vowed to continue to fight for services to be returned to the town’s hospital.

Last week Mrs Maclean called for and led an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons.

It follows calls for maternity and in-patient paediatric services to be brought back to the Alex, following their removal in 2017.

By holding this debate, it gave the MP the opportunity to raise constituents’ concerns directly with the Health Minister, as well as forcing the Government to respond to a number of points raised.

Speaking after the debate, Mrs Maclean said: “Despite Brexit, the Alex remains my top priority and the top priority of my constituents which is why I held this debate in Parliament – the second time I’ve done so since I was first elected.

“I’ve done my absolute best to explain why services were centralised to Worcester, but two years on, and with the trust still letting down my constituents, I can’t in good faith continue to defend this new clinical model.

“The NHS is set to receive a £20.5 billion cash boost. I believe it is now time to look again at how health services are delivered in Worcestershire. All options must remain on the table, including returning services to the Alex."

She added: “Wednesday’s debate was a great opportunity to raise my constituents’ concerns directly with the Health Minister. I’m grateful for the Minister’s response, but the work doesn’t stop here. The fight continues to see services brought back to the Alex.”
