AN Oldbury school has sent out a warning to parents after a pupil was allegedly approached by a man driving a van, in what was feared may have been a kidnap attempt.

In a letter to parents, which was also posted on social media, Gemma Tillotson, assistant headteacher at Oldbury Academy, said a student at the school was reportedly approached by a man in a white van earlier today (May 10).

The incident is believed to have happened at the junction of George Road and Parson’s Hill.

The assistant headteacher of the Pound Road school advised students to be vigilant, not to approach any unknown people and vehicles and to walk in groups or pairs.

The incident has been reported to the police and the local authority, according to the letter.

West Midlands Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating after a report of an attempted abduction in George Road, Oldbury around 8.30am this morning, Friday 10 May.

"A 13-year-old boy is alleged to have been approached by a man in a white transit van as he walked to school.

"Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information should contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or call 101 quoting crime reference number 20SW/111056B/19."
