A KIND-HEARTED nurse in Wolverley reached the finals of a coveted education awards after she fundraised to buy her school a defibrillator.
Lorraine Wallace, a nurse and matron at Heathfield Knoll School, purchased the life-saving equipment after her son underwent surgery for a genetic heart valve defect.
Lorraine negotiated with charity Hand on Heart to fund the defibrillator, and organised a training day for all of Heathfield Knoll's teaching staff to educate them on basic CPR.
She also uses her skills to teach pupils CPR and first aid.
She was shortlisted for Hand on Heart's Education Award, which recognises those who go above and beyond to create a heart-safe environment, and reached the final round at a ceremony at The Hilton in Manchester.
Speaking after the event, Lorraine said: "As a nurse I am passionate about teaching these skills to the children, instilling in them the fact that saving someone’s life might be one of the most important lesson they ever learn as it could well be a friend or family member who needs their help."
