REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has welcomed the latest Key Stage 2 results which show 60 per cent of primary schools in Redditch have seen an increase in the number of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics, according to the Department for Education.
Nationally, the number of pupils meeting the expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2 has increased from 61 per cent in 2017 to 64 per cent in 2018.
These more demanding Key Stage 2 tests have set a higher standard in schools, bringing England’s primary school curriculum closer to the standard in countries with the most successful education systems.
And thanks to the hard work of teachers in Redditch, more pupils are achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics.
Two of the most improved schools include Birchensale Middle School, which has seen the proportion of its pupils achieving the expected standard increasing from 57 per cent in 2017 to 71 per cent in 2018.
St Bede’s Catholic Middle School also saw more pupils achieving the expected standard from 55 per cent in 2017 to 68 per cent in 2018.
MP Mrs Maclean said: “Every child, no matter their background, deserves a great education, and that's certainly happening in Redditch thanks to our first-class teachers and outstanding schools.
“Congratulations to our schools who have seen an increase in the number of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics at Key Stage 2.
“One of my favourite parts of the job is talking to children and young people and I’m looking forward to visiting these schools once again to pass on my congrats in person.”
