A CARER has launched a project aiming to provide the city’s homeless with gift boxes this Christmas.

Emily Griffin has formed the ‘Bring Christmas To The Homeless Project’ where she hopes to deliver 70 boxes filled with gifts to the people who will be on the streets during the festive season.

The 26-year-old contacted the Worcestershire Homeless Appeal and was told that there are approximately sixty men and 10 homeless women in Worcester.

Miss Griffin, from Worcester, said: “Something triggered me to start this project.

"There is always more that can be done to support the community.

“I’m chuffed - the project is going really well. It made me realise how lucky I am and that I have so much to be grateful for.

“People take life for granted. It has opened my eyes and has encouraged me to look at things differently. It has also made me wonder where the homeless go and what they do at Christmas.”

On Saturday, December 22, Miss Griffin will be handing out the gifts at the old fire station, in Copenhagen Street, where the homeless have their food.

Miss Griffin is looking for donations to help towards building the gift boxes. She is appealing for toiletries, blankets, warm clothing, individually wrapped food, boxes of Christmas crackers, sleeping bags and books.

Miss Griffin added: “I want everyone to have something. The gifts will cater for everyone. The idea is for the boxes to be festive but also practical.

“I have been overwhelmed by all the support received so far. The amount of people that want to get involved has been incredible. It just shows how many want to help the homeless community.

“I firmly believe in the ‘butterfly effect.’ I am hoping this small gesture will help change someone’s day and make their Christmas that little bit more special. A positive influence can have a large impact amongst many people.”

Miss Griffin will also be providing bags of essentials for the dogs, owned by the homeless.
