TODAY'S old picture from the Worcester News archive dates back to February 1978, when 30,000 tons of soil were dumped in an old marl pit on the Wells Common off Thirlstane Road in Malvern. Malvern Hills Conservators said the work would improve the common, but local residents objected, saying the pit, which often filled with water, was virtually a village pond and part of the local landscape.
