A CREATIVE student from Stourport was named the winner of a competition to design three new day rooms at Abberley Hall School.

Emily Kent, 12, was commended by a panel of judges for her design, which will be used to completely refurbish the boarding school's new rooms later this term.

Judges were impressed by Emily's research, effort, colours and the presentation of her design, which included a pool table, beanbags and table football.

Competition organiser Judith Brocklehurst said: "Over 45 pupils submitted some beautiful and inspiring designs in the competition.

"They were guided throughout the process by Lindsay Moore and Gaynor Cook, of Willow & Wells interior designers of Stanford Bridge, who gave us some of their valuable time and extensive experience.

“We were delighted with the whole initiative, which saw our pupils producing some fantastic ideas.”

Other pupils to win prizes included Wilfred Brocklehurst, Tobias Brocklehurst, George Beswick, Apolline Hayes-Brugneaux, Bella Kennedy, Lottie Beer, Frederick Criddle, Elliot Gibson, Thomas Man and Henry Carpenter.

The Abberley Hall Foundation has donated £3,000 towards the refurbishment, which will also require the help of parent volunteers to paint walls and make cushions, bean bags, wall art and games.

Judith added: "The aim is to transform the rooms into areas that all pupils want to spend time in, enjoy and hopefully treasure for many years to come."
