A COMMUNITY-spirited youngster from Cleobury Mortimer has been praised after raising £1,000 in support of a Wyre Forest youth homeless charity.

Adam Ponsford, 9, decided to raise funds for Wyre Forest Nightstop and Mediation Service, after he became concerned about young people in the area who have nowhere to call home.

The kind-hearted child took action by hosting a charity cake sale and tombola at Kinlet Village Hall with the help of his family and friends, and raised £550.

The total was then increased to £1000 after his mum Rachael topped his raised funds with a donation from a trust set up in memory of Adam’s older brother Lewis, who was tragically killed while on holiday in 2006.

Nightstop subsequently made Adam one of their Young Ambassadors in recognition of his fundraising efforts.

He was first made aware of the charity when a family friend needed help during a crisis.

Adam said: “I am only nine but I wanted to support Nightstop because it is a local community project and they helped support a friend of mine.

"I think the work Nightstop do is amazing.”

Judith Ford, chief executive of Wyre Forest Nightstop, said: Adam’s determination to help those less fortunate was a testimony to his kindness and compassion for others.

“It is wonderful to see someone so young so keen to help others and we were so delighted to help promote his event.”
