POLICE believe the body of a man recovered from River Severn is that of missing Kidderminster man Steven Downing.

Officers recovered the body from the river, near to Quay Street, Worcester yesterday (Wednesday, October 31) at around 3pm.

Mr Downing went missing on Sunday evening (October 28) after leaving Worcester Shrub Hill station at around 8:15pm.

Superintendent Damian Pettit said: "Sadly, the body of a man was recovered from the River Severn yesterday (31 October).

“It is believed that it is Steven Downing, who went missing on Sunday evening (28 October) in Worcester. His death is currently being treated as unexplained, the investigation is on-going."

He added next of kin have been informed and formal identification will take place in due course, dedicated officers are supporting next of kin in this difficult time.
