A RESIDENT has started a petition over resurrected plans to put single yellow lines on a city road.

Jo Martyr, of Bromyard Road, Worcester, says she is not satisfied that the public has been properly consulted on the proposal for her street.

Rev Jon Musselwhite previously spoke out in opposition to the lines, arguing that they would prevent some worshippers from attending Bromyard Road Methodist Church.

The congestion-busting measure was put on hold after the outcry, although the council has now resumed the plans.

Mrs Martyr said: "It will inconvenience us. We are appealing for a rethink.

"After my standard 10-hour day away from the home, I already struggle to find a parking space - particularly when local car showroom employees park here.

"The removal of these spaces will make life harder, more dangerous and more stressful for me as a hard working parent, as it will for the many other neighbours who’ll be affected.

"The adjacent streets [to Bromyard Road] will be affected by overspill. Pushing more cars into pavement parking on Blakefield Walk will also increase the danger when walking our little boy to school – we already find ourselves walking in the road in order to navigate around cars.

"Having spoken to lots of mums like myself - who walk their kids to school - there's a concern that it's ill considered."

She said parents are worried that there could be accidents in the side roads due to the increased number of cars parking in the streets.

The bid writer added that she and many others are not allowed to turn their gardens into parking spaces due to restrictive covenants.

She now plans to work with her neighbours to distribute a paper and online petition.

The mother added that the closing date for comments on the proposal is October 25.

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said: "We have started to re-consult on this matter and we welcome any feedback."
