THE Avoncroft Museum in Bromsgrove believes it has the perfect way to end this glorious summer on a high note, with an event called Sounds Amazing.

The musical extravaganza is also a tuneful way to celebrate 100 years of Worcestershire's WI Federation.

A spokesman said: "The grounds and buildings will be a blaze of music and lights on the evening of Bank Holiday Saturday, August 25. This is because more than 240 musicians, from rock choirs to classical quintets, will be performing in and between the historic buildings across the 19-acre site.

"If you’re looking to end your summer on a high note, what better way than to picnic with family and friends next to a windmill, medieval town house or a dovecote. This is a special one-off chance to see Avoncroft Museum’s buildings and grounds beautifully lit and come to life through music and lights as dusk falls."

The Kidderminster Valentines are excited at the prospect of performing in historic buildings.

Choir committee member, Sue Strong said: “It’s not everyday you get to perform in a medieval Guesten Hall or a Cockpit. We’ll be following the tradition of entertainers over the centuries, which makes this one-off event so special.”

Pat Gale (Arley Kings WI) and Musical Director for Sounds Amazing added: “No matter what your musical taste, there’s something for everyone at this evening festival – from vintage hits of the ‘40’s, the classics or pop hits of the 60’s and 70’s. Bring a picnic or treat yourself to the refreshments on-site.

"As dusk falls, stroll around the buildings and grounds as they come to life through music and lights. It will be a magical evening. It will be an amazing night out and a great way to celebrate the end of summer at an evening that Sounds Amazing!”

Other attractions will include including traditional African drumming by The Spirit of Djembe; Fortunate a classical quintet who have performed in Symphony Hall; the Rock Choir will be fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, Vintage Class will be performing songs from the golden eras - 1920's through to the 1960's, and that's not to forget the Worcester Ukulele Club and Medieval Boyz.

Organised by WI members from every corner of the county experienced in performing arts, the evening festival of music and lights is one of several events celebrating 100 years of Worcestershire WI’s working together as a Federation. Today, over 100 WI’s with more than 4,000 members across the county continue to inspire women and support their communities.
