DELAYS are expected for several more hours after a “serious” overnight crash on the A46 Evesham Bypass involving a HGV and a car.

An extensive collision investigation remains ongoing, with West Mercia Police taking to Twitter to thank drivers for their patience while the matter is resolved.

The A46 is likely to remain closed with traffic being diverted through Evesham town centre causing delays, according to Highways England.

Hereford and Worcester Fire crews were dispatched around 00.51am to assist West Midlands Ambulance staff and police officers in releasing casualties following the RTC.

The crash took place between the B4035 near Bengeworth and the A44 near Tywford.

The condition of the casualties is not known at this time.

A staff member at Premier Inn Evesham, on the A46, said the road is still closed and had been told it is unlikely to open until after lunch.

"When I came in it was all coned off and there was a van just saying there has been an incident," she said.

Asked whether staff at Co-op Food-Petrol Evesham at suffered any delays, a till operator said: "There's been a bit of a hold up but everyone's here who needs to be here."
