A WOMAN who blew twice over the drink drive limit but later could not provide a sample has been banned from the road.

Marie Kedward said she was sorry after admitting the offence when she appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Nicola Ritchie, prosecuting, said police responded to a report of drink driving and spoke to the 28-year-old as she turned into the driveway of her Northwick Road property at 3.15am on August 2.

Kedward was asked to take a roadside breath test and she blew 125mcg in 100ml of breath - the legal limit being 35mcg.

Miss Ritchie said Kedward was arrested and taken to the police station where she took another test, which Kedward failed to complete.

Katherine Maynereid, defending, told magistrates that Kedward had driven to a friends place that night and had a few drinks, as she was going to stay there and did not intend to drive home.

But, Ms Maynereid said: "She got into an argument as one of the friends was taking drugs, and she did not feel safe, and able to stay there.

"She then finds herself outside, with the keys in her hands. At that moment it seemed a good idea. It was a mile-and-half to her home.

"It was out of character."

Ms Maynereid said Kedward had not deliberately refused to give a sample explaining she suffers from asthma and was stressed at the time, which made her short on breath and not able to complete the test.

A probation report found there were issues with Kedward's drinking, and suggested she would be suitable for a drink awareness course.

Magistrates ordered Kedward to complete 14 sessions of a drink impairment programme, as well as 60 hours unpaid work.

She was disqualified from driving for 18 months, but was offered a drink drive course which if she successfully completes, will reduce the ban by 18 weeks.

Kedward was also ordered to pay £135 costs and a victim surcharge of £85 - a total of £220, which Kedward offered to pay within a week.
