RESIDENTS have been warned not to drink water from their taps after Severn Trent found that it was not "of an acceptable quality."

People living in apartments and houses at Woodhouse Close in Diglis including in Weir Side Court, Lockwheel House and Bridge View House have reported smelling sulphur in their water.

Severn Trent claim that the issue is due to private work being carried out at the apartments.

Numerous bottles of water have been handed out to dozens of residents by Severn Trent and stacked outside people's doors after the problem surfaced on Tuesday.

Resident Emma Lampitt said: "Severn Trent have been really helpful, they have given us lots of water.

"It is one of those things, it does not really affect us too much.

"We have been told there is a chemical in the water."

Tom Squire said: "It is a bonus for me, because I can take it to work.

"It has not really affected me, I have been given loads of water.

"I drunk four big bottles of the tap water and I realised it smelt funny, but I feel fine after it."

Cynthia Dyson said: "It is slightly annoying, I am not able to wash my face with the water and washing vegetables is difficult.

"We do not know when it will be sorted. Severn Trent said they are analysing it on Friday to find out which chemical it is."

Sean Glanfield added: "It is not really a problem, I can still use the water for cleaning and washing.

"They managed to get the bottled water out to us at the same time they warned us the water was contaminated."

Tests will be undertaken today (Friday) to assess what chemical is in the water.

A Severn Trent spokesman said: “We can confirm that we have issued a do not drink notice to a small number of customers living in an apartment block and some houses, in Worcester after we tested their water supply and found that it was not of an acceptable quality.

“On investigation, we found that the issue was caused by private work carried out at the apartments and was not a result of a problem with our network.

“We’re now working closely with those responsible to get everything back to normal and have supplied everyone affected with bottled water.”
