THE president of the Royal British Legion’s Bewdley branch and his wife raised a toast in celebration to mark 60 happily married years together.

Jeffrey and Iris Styles enjoyed an afternoon tea party at Ye Olde New Inn in Arley with their family and friends, which included a diamond shaped cake made and decorated by their daughters Suzanne and Karen.

Earlier in the day the couple, who have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, were delighted to receive a message of congratulations from The Queen.

They met at a Young Farmers’ Dance in Far Forest Village Hall, were engaged after a couple of years and then married at Rock Church in June 1958.

They moved to Bannut Tree Farm in Arley to start their life and farming business together.

Over the last sixty years they have worked hard on their farming enterprises including producing pigs for Walls sausages, cereals for animal feed and were one of the first farms in the area to open their fields for Pick Your Own Strawberries.

The couple, both aged 82, still live in the farmhouse and are now enjoying semi-retirement as well as continuing to support the Legion.
