A RUGBY quiz raised £4,000 for a special needs school.

On Wednesday, May 16, national charity Wooden Spoon’s Worcestershire committee held their first Big Fat Rugby Quiz at WRFC clubhouse - home of Rugby union team, Worcester Wanderers. The quiz sold out within 10 days with 30 teams taking part .

John Gibson Chairman of Worcestershire Wooden Spoon said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have raised so much and importantly everyone had a great time. We also picked up over 30 new Wooden Spoon members on the evening. Special thanks to BRI . We want this now to be an annual event and have booked Wanderers clubhouse again in May next year for the Wooden Spoon Big Fat Back To School Quiz”

The quiz was raising money for new classrooms to be built at Riversides School, Barbourne, a school for children with special educational needs, and social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The classrooms will be delivered in the next couple of weeks.

The quiz was sponsored by BRI Wealth Management.

There were 8 rounds of questions hosted by Club President Steve Lloyd with one mystery round delivered by Worcester Warrior Chris Pennell with 10 of his own questions including one revealing what his wife’s pet name for him is.

The eventual winners were a team from Moseley Oak Rugby club who picked up the inaugural Wooden Spoon BFR Trophy and the losing team an inflatable wooden spoon.

The next Wooden Spoon event in Worcester will be the RWC Wine Tasting at Bottles Wine Bar. This event is sold out. The quiz held in May next year at the WRFC clubhouse will be the ‘Big Fat Back To School Quiz,’ subjects will include, PE, Domestic Studies, and maths, and will have a light hearted school theme. Many people are expected to arrive in school uniform.
