Houses could be built on green fields making up an oasis in the middle of one of Worcester’s most densely populated areas.

Elan Homes (Midlands) have applied for permission to build 61 homes on land north of Newtown Road, which would wrap around to the north of houses in Aconbury Close in Ronkswood.

Plans submitted as part of the planning application show that the 61 houses would be concentrated to the south of the site, with its northern end to be made into a green space.

The applications says: “Each house will have its own private drive with sufficient space for parking two cars. Some dwellings also benefit from garages to allow parking for further cars.

"Generous gardens, which include refuse storage areas, landscaping and tree planting is also included within each plot.”

The developers have suggested 18 different styles of house, with a mixture of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses. There could be 10 single bedroom homes, 14 two-bedroom units, three three-bed houses including one bungalow, 11 four-bed houses and 23 five-bed houses.

The application points out that the site has been allocated as suitable for residential use in the South Worcestershire Development Plan and adds: “Given its location it would be inappropriate to introduce any other uses on the site and as such the proposals remain wholly residential.

“The external appearance of the buildings has been designed to be primarily red brick and traditional in style in order to respect the context in with the existing surrounding buildings.”

At the moment the only access to the site, apart from on public footpaths across the fields, is from Newtown Road, where a single lane paved track runs north for a few hundred yards, and is blocked by gates to prevent vehicles going any further.

The developers say a new road would have to be created to give access to the development from Newtown Road.

At the top of the track, on the eastern boundary of the development site, lies a covered reservoir.

The application, which has the number P18Q0226, is available to view on the city council's website.
