A HOMELESS man has been jailed for six months after breaching a restraining order preventing him seeing his ex-girlfriend, following a previous harassment conviction.

Jack Rowley, 25, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison for the breach and other offences after officers arrested him at his 16-year-old ex’s home in Droitwich.

The defendant had initially fled from the officers, having spat at his ex and threatened violence, before returning and damaging a police van with a rock.

Having been arrested, he made racially abusive comments to a police officer.

PC Rich Rees, of Droitwich Police, said: “Rowley’s behaviour has seriously impacted on the lives of his ex-partner and her family.

“He has also been involved in a number of incidents of indiscriminate violence, damage and threatening behaviour, which has had a massive impact on the community in general.”

PC Rees said the six-month sentence is the maximum the court could impose, adding: “This shows how seriously they have taken it.”

Police were called to Rowley’s ex-girlfriend’s address on the Westlands estate on Friday (May 18) and said he was threatening and abusive towards the teenager and her family.

He spat in her face and at another family member before making threats to assault them and damage their property.

He also assaulted another member of the public who tried to intervene, said police.

Rowley, formerly of Farriers Corner, Droitwich, then ran from officers on their arrival but returned a short time later.

On seeing the officers unattended police van, he damaged it by throwing a rock at it, denting the body work.

He was then arrested, before making racially abusive comments to one of the officers.

Rowley was kept in police custody over the weekend, before appearing in Kidderminster Magistrates court on Monday (May 21).

He was convicted of breach of a restraining order, two common assault offences, two criminal damage offences and a racially aggravated public order offence.

He was sentenced to prison and fined.

The protection from harassment order had been imposed on Rowley by magistrates on April 30 to protect his ex-girlfriend following a conviction of harassment against her.

The restraining order prevented Rowley from contacting his ex, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and excluded him from the area where she lives.

PC Rees said: “Mr Rowley has shown a complete disregard for the law and shows no remorse for the upset he has caused.

“As well as the custodial sentence, police have submitted an application to the court for a Criminal Behaviour Order.

“If this is granted it will exclude Rowley from the whole of the Westlands estate.

“This application will be heard on June 1.”
