AN investigation has launched into the "unexplained" death of a Bromsgrove woman, while a second woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police received a report that a woman had been assaulted on Tuesday, May 15, and attended an address in Lingfield Walk, Catshill.

One ambulance attended at around 5.30pm and "treated a woman on the scene who had multiple injuries", a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said.

The woman, named as Kelly Godfrey, 42, from Bromsgrove, was admitted to hospital and died the following day.

A 28-year old-female from Bromsgrove has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody awaiting questioning.

The investigation is at an early stage and the death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause.

A post mortem is also due to take place.

Detective Inspector Gerard Smith said: "We have begun an investigation into Kelly's death, which we are currently treating as unexplained.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we are awaiting the results of a post mortem.

"Kelly was well known locally within the town and I would ask anyone who may have seen her over the weekend of Saturday 12, Sunday 13 or on Monday 14 May, or anyone that may have any information that could help with our enquiries, to please make contact."
