PEOPLE in Wyre Forest who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes are being urged to act now to reduce the likelihood of them developing the condition.

Patients can access help and support via the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme - which NHS Wyre Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is working in partnership with ICS Health and Wellbeing to provide locally.

Access to the programme is via a referral from a GP, for anyone who has had a blood test in the last 12 months showing they are at risk of Type 2 diabetes. Patients can also request a referral from their GP, if they have not yet been offered the programme, but know they are at risk.

Patients recruited onto the programme will benefit from services to help them build on their own motivation to make realistic changes to their lives, including what they eat and how active they are.

Dr Nikki Burger, lead GP for the programme in Worcestershire, said: "This programme offers a huge opportunity for patients at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes to make healthier choices to reduce the chances of them developing the condition.

"Whether it is improving someone's diet or getting them to become more active, this programme offers the help and support needed to make important changes to their lives."
