Police have made 12 arrests after tracking down suspects involved in a large brawl at Goodwood races from video footage.

Officers carried out warrants in the early hours of Thursday morning in Southampton and Gosport in Hampshire after the incident at the racecourse near Chichester in West Sussex on May 5.

Eleven men have been charged and released on bail and are due to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on September 25, according to Sussex Police, who worked with officers from Hampshire Constabulary to make the arrests.

Ten were charged with violent disorder. They are: James Whitlock, 25, Jack Cooper, 22, Darius Wharton, 18, Kyle Binns, 26, Jack McLoughlan, 23, all of Southampton, and David Salway, 28, Mike Hand, 32, Tyrone Sharp, 27, Peris Dore, 27, and Michael Suffield, 29, all of Gosport.

Lesley Sharp, 39, also of Gosport, was charged with actual bodily harm.

A 29-year-old man from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and released under investigation.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The video of the altercation was widely circulated on social media at the time and this level of violence is unacceptable.”
