HEREFORDSHIRE’S only motorway is celebrating half a century.
The 21-mile M50, which runs from Ross-on-Wye to Strensham, opened in 1962 and still provides a key link for motorists travelling between the Midlands and South Wales.
Currently the road is undergoing a two-year improvement project costing about £35 million.
Andy Butterfield, Highways Agency service delivery manager for the Midlands, said: “Many of the schemes along the M50 corridor are running concurrently to use the same traffic management, which will not only save a huge amount of money but will greatly reduce delays for motorists.
