A Wormelow man who taught in Ross-on- Wye's secondary schools for more than a quarter of a century has died at the age of 84.

Geoff Prime was deputy headteacher at Ross Grammar School and then a vice-principal at John Kyrle High School during a career which spanned from 1959 until he was forced to retire by ill-health in 1985.

Away from his academic career, the University of Bristol graduate was a member of Much Birch Parish Council and Much Birch Parochial Church Council as well as serving on the board of governors at Much Birch School.

A keen sportsman in his younger days, he had a long involvement with Wormelow Cricket Club and held a Hereford United season ticket for many years.

The funeral service for Geoff, who leaves three children and two grandchildren, will be held at Hereford Crematorium this Thursday (November 1) at 12.45pm.
