THE Highways Agency has today announced plans to repair the drainage system along both the north and southbound carriageways of the A49 near Leominster.

Work, between the A49/A44 roundabout and A49 Long Wood, is due to start on August 29 and is likely to take approximately five months, depending on weather conditions.

It will involve lane closures and temporary traffic lights, which will be in operation 24 hours a day at various locations along the A49 as the work progresses along the carriageway.

Highways Agency project sponsor, Laura Mobley, said the routine, yet essential work, is to make sure the drainage system on the A49 prevents the carriageway from flooding and generally enhancing safety for road users.

She added: “It has been carefully planned to allow drainage works to be completed safely, in a cost effective way while keeping disruption to road users to a minimum.

"People using this section of the A49 during the work will find themselves being held at the temporary traffic lights for a short time, so should allow a little extra time to complete journeys."
