Tyrrells has put forward plans to expand its popcorn production.
The crisps manufacturer, which already produces popcorn at its Stretford base near Leominster , has earmarked a former office and storage site on its land in which to launch the venture.
Speaking at a Herefordshire Council planning meeting local member Councillor Mark Cooper warned the application was “a salami-sized” part of the company’s long-term vision for the area.
“There is an impact on traffic and light pollution for residents and now we have the smell of popcorn to deal with,” he said.
“Expansion of the site has now reached capacity and if it is allowed to continue it is a nonsense.
“We will be here again. Rest assured.”
Richard Worrall, operations director at Tyrrells, said it was very small extension.
A decision on the plan will be made at a later date.
