SIMON Pegg has stopped Wigmore High School teacher Nick Tranter reaching the top of the class in a TV gameshow.

Nick appeared on BBC quiz Pointless last week but came up short of taking home a share of the £1,000 jackpot after he and teammate Andrew Bruton could not come up with the name of an obscure Simon Pegg film.

The pair still received a Pointless trophy for making the final.

“It was a little bit too obscure for us, but the parents and pupils have been lovely and sent me some nice messages,” said Nick, who teaches French.

Andrew, a former languages teacher at Wigmore, is now coffee farmer in Peru.

The pair first met when Nick taught Andrew German at John Beddoes School in Presteigne 20 years ago.

“I think we were the first teacher and ex-pupil that they had on the show,” said Nick.
