A HORSE was rescued after it got its back legs stuck in a cattle grid near Lyonshall yesterday.
Firefighters were called to Lower Broxwood just after 10am and removed a wooden barrier to free the animal, a 24-year-old mare called Dolly.
The horse had escaped from her paddock after a gate was left open and sustained cuts to her legs.
“On this occasion it was a horse that was left unnecessarily, but the incident could easily have involved injury to a pedestrian or a motorist,” said station commander Gareth Clarke.
“It’s vital that people follow the Countryside Code, leaving gates open if they find them open and closed if they find them closed.”
The horse is expected to make a full recovery, albeit with scarring to its legs.
