THE row over a second supermarket moving into Hay-on-Wye could reignite next month.
Powys County Council this week said in a statement that options for funding a new school in Hay – including the option of selling land to a supermarket developer in exchange for funding – were likely to be considered by the council’s cabinet this autumn.
“The county council has been in discussions with a developer over proposals that could lead to a new school and enhanced community facilities being built in exchange for the existing primary school site since last year,” the statement read.
“Alternative proposals were received by the council earlier this year but a decision on the project was deferred because of the local council elections and for the proposals to be investigated.”
The alternative proposals were put forward by Plan B for Hay, a campaign group which formed when Powys unveiled its plans to sell land in Oxford Road to Gaufron Development in exchange for funding for a new school by 2015.
