Fears that a hospital might close were raised at a packed public meeting in Hay-on-Wye.

More than 50 people attended the Hay and Talgarth Public Focus Group meeting yesterday (Wednesday), voicing fears that Bronllys Hospital might shut under the Powys Teaching Health Board's "vision for health care services in south east Powys" plan.

The hospital, parts of which are more than 100 years old, has recently seen some of its services, including x-ray facilities, taken away. Concrete has been poured down toilets in the now-closed Glasbury ward.

However, public at the meeting was told the health board “remains committed” to a promise that no health services would be withdrawn unless equal services were available elsewhere.

Health board officer Andrew Evans said the health board was “not sure” on the position of Bronllys Hospital – a fact that could have fuelled rumours that it was to close.
