CAMPAIGNERS protesting against a permanent mobile phone mast in Hay-on-Wye held a public meeting and met with their MP.

More than 80 people went to Hay Parish Hall to hear concerns that the O2 mast being erected on land off Forest Road – not far from the proposed site of Hay’s new primary school – could put local people’s health at risk.

Those leading the campaign raised the same concerns when they met with Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, at his town surgery on Monday.

O2 was given planning permission by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority back in March despite Hay Town Council’s objections.

The 12-metre tall mast, which O2 say will adhere to international guidelines on radio frequency exposure, is being built on land behind the Greenfield Industrial Estate.

Campaigners believe it will be going up around Christmas time.
