THE first ever Hay-on-Wye biking festival will take place next spring and include marathon races around the Black Mountains.

Following the huge success of Hay Walking Festival, Hay Bike Fest will run from April 12 to 14.

It is being organised by volunteers from Hay Tourism Group and will promote mountain biking, road cycling and leisure riding in and around Hay.

“There’ll be easier routes like a leisurely 15-mile ride into Herefordshire where the roads are much flatter than the Brecon Beacons National Park,” said organiser Anna Heywood, who also runs Drover Holidays in Hay.

“We’ll have guided rides, on and off road, and a sportive – a non-competitive, mass start event that’ll have a choice of a 60-mile route or a 100-mile route right the way around the Black Mountains.

Anyone interested in finding out more or signing up to be a volunteer can meet organisers at the Swan in Hay between 4pm and 8pm on Monday (November 19) or call Drovers on 01497 821134 for more information.
