THERE is going to be a protest march in Hereford against badger culling.

The Herefordshire Badger Group is staging the march on Saturday, November 21 at 1pm, starting at Castle Green.

A badger cull has taken place in Dorset, Gloucestershire and Somerset and is intended to curb tuberculosis in cattle.

But the county's badger group think culling is cruel, ineffective against bovine tuberculosis and expensive.

Herefordshire could be on the roll-out list for culling badgers in 2016.

There will be a march around the town followed by speakers and discussion back at Castle Green.

Speakers include Mark Jones of the Born Free Foundation, Dominic Dyer, CEO of the Badger Trust and Lynn Sawyer, wildlife campaigner.

Sara Siloko, from Hereford, is against the cull because she believes the badger is an important part of our ecosystem and natural heritage.

She said instead of culling badgers, the Government should improve cattle movement controls and testing, and support farmers to implement simple bio-security measures.

Ms Siloko believes the Government should prioritise the development of a cattle vaccine.
