IN these days when the aim is to have as few and as unobtrusive road signs as possible, why is Herefordshire Council going in the opposite direction?
Signs, often with bright yellow backgrounds, are sprouting up everywhere.
In my own village a crop of posts has sprung up in the residential roads.
When I queried what they were for, the answer was “for repeater signs for the 30mph limit”.
I’m in favour of enforcing speed limits but on these short winding culde- sacs it is not possible to exceed the limit.
As well as being unsightly and unnecessary I’m sure that the cost is significant with two men and a lorry working on them for two days.
If, as Amey, the council’s contractors says, they are a legal requirement, these particular regulations would be a good candidate for abolition under the Government’s review of unnecessary rules and regulations.
