I would like to add my voice to that of Liz Overstall (Emergency, Dec 27) in calling on Herefordshire Council to declare a climate emergency.
Ms Overstall notes that London, Bristol, and Manchester have done so. I would like to add Totnes, Frome, Trafford, Forest of Dean, Brighton and Hove, Stroud, Oswestry and Machynlleth to the list. Frome Town Council has also pledged to make Frome carbon neutral by 2030. Mid December data compiled by Philip Sutton showed that Climate Emergency Declarations cover 15 million citizens in three English speaking countries.
The evidence of the speed of changes to our world is so clear that it can only be a matter of time before Hereford Council declares an emergency as well.
However, I would urge us all not to wait for the important move from the council. We need to act upon the evidence of this emergency in our communities, workplaces and homes. Please meet with others in your community to discuss what actions might be appropriate for you. This must be handled on a global, national and local scale.
It IS possible to be too late on this. We are so very nearly out of time.
