The Artrix in Bromsgrove has postponed all events and has temporarily closed the building until further notice, because of the coronavirus crisis.

Some postponed events, however, have or will be rescheduled to new dates.

The decision to temporarily close Artrix was taken "in light of the Government's latest announcement advising people to avoid non-essential social contact, and specifying that they should avoid theatres amongst other businesses".

A spokesperson said: "We have taken the difficult to decision to postpone all events and close the building with immediate effect.

"If you have pre-booked tickets we will be rescheduling events wherever possible and transfer tickets that have already been booked to the new dates. If you can no longer make it, or if we are unable to reschedule, refunds will be issued. Although because of the huge demands this situation is placing on us we would ask you to consider donating some or all of the ticket value to Artrix, rather than asking for a refund.

"We are a small charity with very few staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The spokesperson added: “The decision has been made with the best interests of our audiences, visitors and staff in mind, and while we sincerely regret any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause, our responsibility to protect everyone’s good health must come first. We would like to reassure our visitors and audiences that there have been no cases of coronavirus linked to Artrix and that closure and cancellations are precautionary measures.

"We hope to resume business as usual as soon as possible and will keep customers up to date on any further developments.”

The Artrix is "initially focused on dealing with events, classes and activities scheduled in the next two weeks".

The venue will be issuing updates on a weekly basis after that.

Artrix will be closed to the public until further notice.

The spokesperson added: "Please check our website and social media channels for up to date information."
