VISITORS to Ledbury’s Community Day this Saturday are being told that not all the attractions are in the printed programme.

This is because the annual event is even better than expected, this year.

In fact, a number of eleventh hour extra attractions have been announced, and one of them promises to be both historical and spectacular, and a reminder of a time, back in the seventeenth, when Britain was dangerously divided.

Event spokesman, Griff Holliday said: “By St Katherine’s Hall, look out for the Cavaliers and Roundheads of the Sealed Knot Society, who will be bringing news of the Battle of Ledbury of 1645 – and why not try on a 17th century soldier’s helmet?”

And away from talk of the clash of arms, an extra cultural event has been laid on.

The Stars Theatre Arts Ballet will be performing at the Community Centre In Lawnside Road, at 11.30am.

Mr Holliday added: “In addition, Ledbury and District Floral Club will be bringing spring flowers to St Katherine’s Hall, and you can find out about reusing old tools in new places at the Malvern Hills Tools for Self-Reliance stand in the Community Centre.”

And one aspect of a caring society will also be on show.

Mr Holliday said: “The Ledbury Food Bank will be happy to meet with people and show them their distribution centre at St Katherine’s Hall.”

Ledbury Community Day will be marking its seventh anniversary this Saturday (June ), for an annual event which, by now, is very much a popular town tradition.

The purpose is to put on show the best that Ledbury can offer, especially in terms of community-based organisations, and more than 70 groups have signed up to take part.

Residents and visitors alike will be able to try their hand at various activities, or have a chat with representatives from various groups throughout the town centre.

Attractions will include meeting the Army Cadets; trying your hand at bowls at the Bowling Club and the Community Centre; riding on a fire engine, and exploring the magic of bell-ringing under the Market House.

And the Maritime Cadets’ will even be bringing a replica field gun.

Ledbury Community Brass Band will be entertaining in the High Street and the U3A Recorder Consort will bring delight to St Michael’s Church.

The full programme for the day – where and at what time - is available on the Community Day website www.ledburycommunityday.org.uk and in the printed programme, which is available around town including Ledbury News.

Most events are from 10am to 2pm around the town centre.
